PM: Only Libya, EU Cooperation can Solve Illegal Immigration Problem

Tripoli_ Libya’s Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah said on Tuesday that the only solution for stopping illegal immigration from the southern Mediterranean is through cooperation between Libya and the EU.

In an interview with the Italian Corriere della Sera, as quoted by the Libyan News Agency (LANA), Dbeibah stressed that “Libyans are among the first victims of illegal immigration”.

“We are no different from the Italy, Greece, France or other countries that are affected from such phenomenon”. Accordingly, it is important that “Europe sets down with us and talk about how we, too, can protect our boarders,” he added as quoted by LANA.

This is also important to provide some “relief of the suffering of those who escape hunger, wars and poverty,” he added. “We are speaking here of an “humanitarian problem not a geopolitical or a security one. Countries from which humans escape must be helped out,” he said.
