Benghazi—Tunisia has reopened Saturday its consulate in the city of Benghazi after a long period of hiatus. This comes as business relations between Tunisia and the authorities in eastern Libya has expanded.

The number of Tunisian companies that are doing major works in the reconstruction sector in the Libyan eastern and southern regions has grown significantly.

Authorities on both sides found it imperative that as the number of workers and business interests is increasing the consulate role has become necessary.

A few weeks ago, seven Tunisian engineers died in a car accident on Jdabia-Kufra road while they were coming back to Benghazi after days of working on projects in southern Libya. This helped speed up the opening of Tunisian consulate.

“The reopening of the Tunisian consulate in Benghazi strengthens joint consular work and facilitates consular requirements for both Libyan and Tunisian citizens,” a statement by the Foreign Ministry in Benghazi said.
