Misrata— The British Military Attaché to Libya, Colonel Matt Ketterer made a working visit to Misrata on 11 March and held talks with the Commander of the 53rd Infantry Brigade Major General Ahmed Hashem.
The two officials discussed “the challenges to stability in Misrata, and opportunities to strengthen partnerships in support of Libyan security,” a statement by the British Embassy in Libya’s X platform said.
According to the Media Center of the General Staff of the Libyan Army (MCGSLA), the meeting, which took place after obtaining permission and approval from the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army, “had addressed ways of supporting military training and consulting as well as combating terrorism in accordance with the agreements between the two countries”.
The statement by the British Embassy said “great to be back in Misrata, met with key local contacts to discuss security in this important Libyan city!” The British officials also had the chance to meet some of the women who have served on the front line with the 53rd Infantry Brigade in the fight against terrorism.
On 2 February, Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh met with British Deputy Chief of Defense Staff, Air Marshal Harvey Smith, during his visit to Tripoli and stressed “the importance of strengthening the partnership with the UK in the military field, with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of Libyan institutions.” Smith expressed his country’s readiness to enhance cooperation in military training and rehabilitation, to achieve stability.
