Musaid— A drug dealer accused of promoting hashish via delivery services has been arrested Saturday in the city of Musaid near the Libyan-Egyptian border, according to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Major efforts are being made by anti-Narcotics authorities to combat drug smuggling and drug using. Libyan borders stretch over five thousand kilometers including its coastal line on the Mediterranean Sea.

This came after the investigation unit received information revealing the suspect’s suspicious activity, who was caught red-handed with hashish in his possession during a well-planned ambush, according to a brief statement issued by the department.

The statement only indicated that the suspect was transferred to the CID branch headquarters in Musaid, pending his referral to the Public Prosecution Office, which will take the necessary legal action against him.

Also on Saturday, the Urban Reorganization Committee (URC), headed by Major General Jamal Al-Amami, and in cooperation with the Military Police and the Criminal Investigation Department in Garnada, announced that it seized a large quantity of drugs during a large-scale security campaign targeting “dens” in the Al-Abraq area, 80 kms east of Benghazi.

The General Directorate of Security Operations of the Libyan government, appointed by the House of Representatives, announced on its Facebook page that the campaign resulted in the seizure of a large sum of money, a huge quantity of various types of hallucinogenic pills, and hashish.

The committee’s Chairman confirmed that security operations are continuing to eliminate all dealers of alcohol, drugs, and hallucinogenic pills, to ensure the safety and security of citizens.

Two days earlier, the URC successfully seized a large liquor factory in the Qubbah area with an estimated capacity of up to 60,000 liters. “This operation is part of ongoing security campaigns to combat crime and protect the community,” it said.

Meanwhile, the CID in Benghazi announced the arrest of two individuals on charges of drug trafficking in the Al-Kish area. It said it had received accurate information indicating the defendants’ involvement in drug trafficking, noting that 329 Tramadol pills, hashish, and 1,520 dinars were found in their possession.

The defendants and the seized items were transferred to the main headquarters of the Anti-Narcotics Department in the Al-Hadaiq area where they were given an official report to complete legal procedures.
