Tripoli— Libya’s first ever model for generative artificial intelligence, LibiGPT, was launched on Monday in Tripoli marking a significant effort by the private sector in the country to venture into the age information technology.

The Libyan generative AI model has been developed by Smart Co. for Technology Projects and Artificial Intelligence (SCTPAI).

The company maintains that LibiGPT is more than a language model as “it is an intelligent agent with other systems via APIS, capable of understanding, analyzing, and generating intelligent reports that assist decision-makers, researchers, and government entities in achieving meaningful results,” according to Ali Al-Baji, the CEO of SCTPAI.

Taken as it is, LibiGPT can be viewed as a move forward in the AI-powered chatbots that are continuing to shape the world. LibiGPT comes with a Libyan cultural flavor that makes it even the more interesting and more attractive to those who use Arabic as a language of communication as well as to everyone around the world.

“LibiGPT boasts versatile capabilities, from text generation, images, and 3D designs, to animating images and creating fully integrated presentations. It is a powerful tool for researchers and engineers, as well as students and educators, capable of assisting with homework,

research, and problem-solving across all levels of education, from primary school to university,” emphasized the SCTPAI’s CEO and developer of LibiGPT.

“With the launch of LIBIGPT today, we embark on a path that promises to redefine the digital interaction landscape in Libya and beyond. This is not just a victory for technology; it is a triumph for every knowledge seeker, every student eager to learn, every professional striving for excellence, and every citizen dreaming of a better future,” he added.

The launching of LibiGPT is expected to inspire the young generation in Libya to venture into innovation, entrepreneurship and start-up projects and the process provoke government institutions and policy makers to follow suit in this regard.
