Benghazi—The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar made a surprise visit to the Al-Watan Club for Rifle Shooting and Equestrian Club (WCRSE) in order to oversee the preparations for the upcoming “Knights of Dignity” Championship.
The visit comes after many days of the Commander’s being out of sight, leading to a spread of rumors that he could have been either seriously ill or even dead.
Accompanied by the Parliament-appointed PM Osama Hammad and a number of his entourage. Mr. Haftar inspected the club’s new track and listened to plans and preparations of the important sports event from the officials.
Mr. Haftar stressed the importance of “paying attention to these activities, which embody the values of discipline and courage and contribute to preserving the cultural and sporting heritage of Libyan society,” according to a statement by the General Command’s Media Office.
Riders from various Libyan cities and regions are to participate in the “Knights of Dignity” Championship.
The city of Benghazi and eastern and southern Libya in general are witnessing a widespread reconstruction and rebuilding of infrastructure that have touched almost all fields, including the rebuilding of the city of Derna.
Derna was subject to catastrophic floods (Storm Daniel) in September 2023 that killed over 10,000 people and destroyed more than the third of its buildings.
