Ankara— The Chief of Staff of the Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) General Mohamed Al-Haddad made an official visit Thursday to Turkey upon an invitation extended to him and the accompanying delegation by the Turkish Chief of Staff of the Turkish Army Metin Gurak. He was received with military honors.

According to a statement by the General Staff that was published on its official Facebook platform, the two men held a meeting on Thursday during which “ways of joint cooperation between the two countries were discussed in accordance with the agreements and in all fields.”

Al-Haddad’s visit to Türkiye comes a week after the visit made by the head of the interim government of national unity and Minister of Defense Abdul Hamid Dabaiba to Ankara. He held meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other top Turkish officials.

During this visit, General Haddad laid a wreath of flowers on the tomb of “Mustafa Kemal Ataturk”, the founder of the modern Turkish state.

He also met the Turkish Minister of Defense Yasar Guler at his office and both discussed “ways of cooperation and coordination between the two friendly countries,” the statement said.

Turkey has strong relations with the Libyan officials who are based in Tripoli. It has signed “strategic” economic and security agreements with them during the last few years. These agreements are the focus of the Libyan-Libyan political dialogue and the Libyan internal conflict as well.
