Tripoli— The Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) said Wednesday it has completed the investigations into the murder of Brigadier General Ali Al-Rayani of the Libyan military, and found that it was motivated by theft, according to a statement released on its official Facebook platform.
“The Public Prosecution conducted an investigation, which resulted in proving that their [the attackers’] entry [into the victim’s home] was motivated by theft,” it said.
The statement added, “three armed criminals entered Al-Rayani’s home, to control the family members. The criminals’ control did not end until they were killed.
The PPO summed the investigation’s outcome as follows: “The perpetrators assaulted the family, so the father was forced to defend his honor, life, and property. He opened fire on the perpetrators to repel their attack, which resulted in their death, and he was also shot, which led to his death.”
It concluded, “after the Public Prosecution completed the investigation’s procedures, it ordered the release of the family members who participated in resisting the perpetrators’ assault.”
According to media sources, General Al-Rayani managed to kill three of his attackers before his death. The Public Prosecutor, however, has not revealed the names of the perpetrators as of yet.
