Benghazi— The head of Combating Illegal Immigration Agency (CIIA) in eastern Libya announced Thursday the deportation of more than 13,000 illegal migrants during the first three months of this year.
Major General Salah Al-Khafifi said as a result of the support provided by the Libyan National Army General Command, 13,059 irregular migrants of various nationalities were deported during the first quarter of 2025, according to a statement posted on the office’s Facebook page.
On Thursday, the Deportation Office of Combating Illegal Immigration Agency, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), deported 266 migrants including 177 migrants were deported by air to Bangladesh to their country via Benina International Airport.
This is in addition to 89 Egyptian migrants deported by road via the Emsaid land port on the boarder between Libya and Egypt. The deportees had been arrested during routine police daily patrols to combat the phenomenon of migration, said the statement.
