Tripoli— The Libyan Audit Bureau (LAB) signed two Memorandums of Understanding with both the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) aiming at enhancing the Bureau’s role in developing oversight methods and tools that improve transparency in Libya and help in fighting widespread corruption.
The two MoOs are expected to play a role in building human capacity, developing communication systems, and supporting digital transformation efforts in the country along with other aspects of ongoing cooperation with international institutions.
“This cooperation comes within the framework of the Audit Bureau’s orientation towards openness to regional and international partnerships, which enhances the Bureau’s effectiveness as a national oversight institution and maintains its mission of protecting public funds and consolidating the principles of transparency and accountability,” said a statement release by the LAB.
On 24 September, the Libyan Audit Bureau celebrated the 70th anniversary of its founding that took place in 1955. The anniversary was marked by the launching of an anti-corruption strategy, a move aimed at promoting the principles of transparency, integrity, and the protection of public funds.
