Bani Walid— The 444th Brigade, affiliated with the Tripoli’s Ministry of Defense, announced Tuesday evening that a car bomb exploded within the vicinity of its Bani Walid’s military camp, alleging, “a suicide bomber detonated himself inside the car in front of the camp.”

Investigations resumed immediately after the explosion, said the brigade in a statement on its Facebook platform, “and our forces were able to control the situation within the first moments.”

No deaths or injuries were reported as a result of the explosion.

Neither the Ministry of Defense in Tripoli nor the Ministry of Interior confirmed or commented on the alleged suicidal terrorist car bombing that targeted the 444th Brigade.

“These despicable acts are being carried out by the cowardly hands of terrorism, but they have not weakened our resolve or the steadfastness of our men,” said the statement, adding, “these cowardly tactics only increase our determination to pursue terrorist hideouts until they are eradicated and uprooted.”

While some social media sources doubted that there was ever a suicidal terrorist bombing, others said the residents of the city of Bani Walid considered it a misleading news as there was no “suicide attack” at all.

They maintain that the explosion destroyed a Verna car, but there were no human remains, according to the statements of the National Safety Authority and the people who rushed to the place. Still others claim that it is likely that a shell fell on the place from an unknown origin. While others claimed the attack was caused by an airplane.

The incident most likely lead to further investigation by the authorities of the Government of National Unity (GNU), especially as the incident in itself represents another reminder for the need for security, stability and discipline in western Libya.

However, the 444th Brigade vowed that it “will not hesitate to perform our duty, as we always have, to protect the homeland and pursue anyone who threatens the security and safety of our people,” according to its statement.
