Moscow— The Chief of Staff of the Security Forces in the Libyan National Army (LNA) Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar, and accompanying delegation held talks on Sunday with Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Lieutenant General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, during which expanding areas of military and security cooperation and coordination were discussed.
“During the meeting, several issues of mutual interest were discussed, and ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides were explored,” said a statement by the Security Forces.
On his part, the Russian Deputy Defense Minister “praised the role of the armed forces in maintaining security and stability in Libya, stressing that Libya’s stability is the foundation for regional stability,” the statement added.
According the Security Forces, General Khaled Haftar “highlighted the depth of Libyan-Russian relations, emphasizing the importance of opening broader horizons for cooperation in various fields, particularly military and security, as well as cooperation in economic and development issues, to serve the interests of both countries.”
This meeting is a continuation of previous discussions on developing “the strategic partnership and expanding areas of military and security cooperation and coordination, which contribute to enhancing regional stability and serving the common interests of the two countries,” stressed the statement.
On 30 April, the head of the Security Forces received in his office in Rajma the Defense Attaché at the British Embassy to Libya, Colonel Matt Ketterer.
“A productive discussion with Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar on Libyan border security and wider stability. It was great to discuss our British funded medical and English Language training, and to discuss prospects for future cooperation and engagement,” wrote Ketterer on the Embassy’s Facebook platform.
